I hear this kind of statement often, and on a lot of subjects. Nobody ever explains why something that will work in most of the developed world, Americans are not smart enough to do.
I don't know where my previous went but you are on point on this question on why we can't be like those dang democratic socialist countries like:
Why indeed our country can't be the safest country: Finland
Why can't we have the highest quality of life: Netherlands, Noway, Sweden, Switzerland...
Why can't our country be best for children: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland...
Why can't we have the best healthcare: Luxembourg, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden...
And if you are still scared of socialism, (and for relevance to our topic), national parks and forests are vestiges of socialism.
