San Diego Co parks Lake Morena ideas
Okay I'm going to ask a very subjective question that hopefully a few can reply to. But first a little preamble.
I'm a creature of habit. I know it and I have come to terms with it. I always go to the same campgrounds over and over and over. Lately my oldest son has stated that the same campgrounds are boring. So I figured I'd try something new and go to a lake. So I'm looking at Lake Morena in the San Diego County Park system. But now my mostly imagined dilemma.
I don't want to book the least popular campsite in the place. You know the one I'm talking about. I'm talking about that site that you can't get the trailer into because the bushes are overgrown. The site that is completely bordered by beaver tail cactus like a few of the sites at lake Jennings. The site that is so small that the fire ring is under your awning.
So here's what I'm asking. Yes I've finally arrived at the question. :) What sites at Lake Morena are decent? Why are they decent? What sites should I avoid at all costs? Why should I avoid them? Any hints tips or advice about the place?
Now I know this is a difficult question to answer because everyone's idea of good is different. So I'll try to define what I'm looking for.
We will have 2 30 foot trailers and maybe a popup or two.
We're not fishermen so we don't need to be closest to the access road to the lake if there is one.
We will have a bunch of kids mostly boys ages 5 to 14 who will ride their bikes around and around and around. So maybe some fairly flat parts of the roads with some ups and downs in the road so they can feel like they are really living life.
We don't want to be on the main thoroughfare where everybody is driving by at all hours.
We like to find a few spots together that kind of turn into one larger campsite. This usually happens on curves in the road like maybe sites 69, 72, 73. The idea is so the kids can roam to each others campsites without going through other sites.
A view of the lake or some city lights would be nice, but not a deal breaker by any means.
Probably not right up against the bathrooms as they usually get a ton of foot traffic.
Not cactus infested or the one where every bird in the county sits in an poops.
If there is a playground it would be nice to probably at least be able to see it from the sites in case a kid wanders off.
Anyway, I know this is a subjective question and some of you won't want to give up the number of your secret favorite spot. But I'm sure that there are a few of you out there that know the good spots and are willing to share, even if it happens to be by private message. But if you won't tell me your favorite spot, please at least tell me the spots that are the last ones you would ever consider.
Thanks
