I have researched and stayed at most of the campground parks in San Diego County over the last 35 years of traveling back and forth to my home in southern Baja. (Baja Sur)

One of my favorite places is at Guajome County Park a few miles east of Oceanside. About $28 per night. Nicely wooded with a lake, plus lots of wildlife while being close to shopping and the beach...about 6 miles. Unfortunately, you cannot stay for a whole month...and most likely never thru a weekend, as those are reserved well in advance. I've camped there about 20 times, but only for up to 4-5 nights at a time...then had to leave for the weekend and come back late Sunday afternoons. Yes, kind of unhandy.


I did try Vacationers RV Park in El Cajon for a month...full hookups, including Wi-Fi 7 cable for $645 per month. (The best monthly deal I could find with all amenities.) Right next to I-8 freeway. Also stored a RV there for $5 per day while I was in Mexico.



I've also stayed at Santee Lakes RV Park many times, but never for more than a week at a time. About $38 per night with full hookups. It's very nice and scenery-filled. Best to get a waterfront site. Good time feeding the ducks (unless they come thru your open door...they are not housebroken...ugh!)

Portrero County Park near Tecate (east of San Diego about 35 miles on Hwy 94) is very nice...and lots more reasonable than San Diego RV parks. $25 per night last time there. Huge oak trees and pleasant walks. Quite a drive back into San Diego for the beach & shopping, but we've done it and were quite satisfied to be 'out in the country'.

Have also stayed at Campland On The Bay, Chula Vista Marina, KOA, etc. $$$

Hi...some experience at Bernado Shores Park, Imperial Beach.

Our story is ....we tried it after it was recommended by some local amigos as the rv park nearest to the border crossing at San Ysidro into BCN, Mexico (Tijuana). An adult park, we found it quite nice for the money...Big spaces with dividing hedges. No cable tv, but our sat dish worked great..also picked up many free-to-air channels via the RV bat-wing antenna. Sorry, can't recall the price, but if we stayed, then it was within our usual budget of $50 or less.

Also we had fun driving out on the Silver Strand which is close.

I would recommend Santee Lakes, but have no idea how much the monthly rate is.
Best option is to call and get them to tell you what it would run.

Read there is a big time ant problem there.

My choice would be Chula Vista RV Resort. I consider it a 5 star RV park. Although it is expensive, it has the amenities and location that makes it a great base camp for the San Diego area.

We spend 3 months there every summer (most expensive rate)and have never had a bad experience. The grounds are well kept, staff is friendly and the park is safe.

An added advantage is the numerous RV related vendors that will come into the park to do repairs, clean and detail, replace or install appliances/accessories. Very convenient and the prices are reasonable.

Bernardo Shores is my first choice. We stayed there for just over 2 weeks in July. We will be there most of January. Chula Vista is very nice. We'd be there had I not discovered Bernardo Shores. Mission Bay RV would be okay during the winter. Too many unsupervised kids during the summer.

Lucker52 - You said "reasonable". I would suggest Pio Pico RV park in Jamul. It is a quiet area that is a short drive to Chula Vista. The beach might be 12 miles. City of San Diego 15 miles. it is a Thousand Trails Park. Even if you are not a member they will rent you a site. Price should be reasonable for monthly rate. They are doing lots of upgrades at this park currently. They have several very nice pools, on site restaurant (limited hours), people that run it are very nice. It is security gated. This is in a quiet area. Close to town but more like out in the country.

Not as nice as Santee Lakes or Chula Vista RV parks but way less money. Campland by the bay is very expensive. Someone recommended Guajome County park. I have stayed there. A long way to San Diego. That is way up in North County. Far closer to San Diego is Sweetwater County Park. Sweetwater has far and away much better sites than Guajome. I have stayed at one site in Sweetwater that had a peak of the ocean (distant view 10 miles away). I don't know if Sweetwater has long term rate. Pio Pico way quieter than Sweetwater.
