Sandpoint /Priest lake Idaho

Any auggestions on campgrounds with full hookups around Sandpoint and or Priest lake Idaho.? If you had to choose between the two locations which one would you say has more attractions and beauty. We like to go on walks and scenic byways so if you can give me your input it would be great. Thanks
  • We found a really nice county park campground on the river, between Sandpoint and Priest Lake, which to us was kind of disappointing, a lot of privately owned land to maneuver around. We stayed south of Bonner's Ferry, and didn't think a lot of this area. Lots of construction around Bonner's Ferry .
  • There's a big USFS CG a few miles east of Sandpoint, believe it's called Samowen. And south of Sandpoint on US 95 about 15 miles +/- is Farragut SP, which is a real handy spot. Suggest you contact Idaho Parks or Panhandle NF folks for specific information. A smaller Corps of Engrs park is west of Sandpoint just off US2 going towards Newport WA, I don't recall much about it as it's been about twenty years since I was in that neck of the woods.
  • For beauty, Priest Lake by a mile. Indian Creek at Priest Lake State Park has some full hookup sites and you can easily fit a 5-er in there. There may be others on the lake, I haven't checked recently. If you're looking to relax and for natural beauty, go to Priest Lake. One of my favorite places, you won't be disappointed.

More tourist attractions in Sandpoint. Not much for campgrounds *in* Sandpoint itself worth staying at, but there are plenty within 20 minutes or so.
  • Several years ago we were in that area and went a little east of Sandpoint, Hope , ID, and stayed at a wonderful RV park named Beyond Hope. I would recommend it.
  • Fiver wheel thanks for the info .I will look for campgrounds around Sandpoint..Any suggestions are welcome
  • The comparison between the two is apples to oranges.
Sandpoint has way more tourist attractions and with Bonners Ferry so close there are unlimited attractions and RV parks to suit every taste. Priest Lake is fairly remote with a couple of resorts ( Cavanaugh and Elkins) that are not particularly fast paced. RV accommodations are the state park variety.
