Santa Fe, NM RV Parks and To-Do's

Lots of great ideas. Our favorite park is Santa Fe Skies--easy to get to, nice walking trail, great sunsets, close to Santa Fe Brewery, nice pull thrus. But it can get windy--don't leave your awning out if you leave. There is a great walking tour of downtown Santa Fe run by the New Mexico Museum of Art. Lots of galleries, visit Bandalier NP, great bike trails, go to the Plaza, eat at local places like Cafe Pasquals and Tortilla Flats. If you play golf, the local golf course with a great par 3 is nice. We go to Santa Fe every year and will be back in September on our way back to San Antonio. Any questions, send me a message.

Great suggestions everybody! We will be in Taos the week before we visit Santa Fe (as we've concluded that one day in Taos is never enough time for us the past couple of years), and will be in Red River, NM the two weeks prior to our week-long Taos visit (coming from two weeks on the Arkansas River below Salida in CO).

X2 very close to downtown. Nice park. We visit often as our son lives in Santa Fe and have found this most centrally located for all destinations.

We stay at Roadrunner RV Resort. It has large pull throughs and several casinos we enjoy eating at while there. Short drive to Santa Fe, LosAlamos, Bandelier National Monument , San Ildefonso Pueblo and others. Great shopping on the square in Sante Fe. Takes day trip and drive up to Taos.
Another unique little town to drive out to is Madrid where to movie “Wild Hogs” was filmed.

Take a drive out to Los Alamos, there's a great historical museum about the lab and the lab library is open to the public. After you go through security you can drive highway 501 which skirts around the lab - kinda neat looking at all the buildings with non-descriptive "tech area" names. and of course there's the U.S. Property - Lethal Force Authorized signs.

There's also Valles Caldera National Monument, a dormant volcano. You can drive on the caldera and visit the park headquarters, it's a neat drive and cool headquarters building.

I stayed at Trailer Ranch, as they were open year around and I was there early January. They don't allow kids (21 and up), and the place is mostly a trailer-park and only small portion is "campground" ... no complaints about my stay - they had electric, cable tv and hot showers. Water was turned off at the site but available from an out building. They're pet friendly with a fenced in dog park past the trailer-park section.

We like the convenience of the Trailer Ranch RV Resort. The city bus tops in front of the entrance and you can take it to the plaza downtown for about $1.00 and avoid trying to find a parking place. You can also transfer to other buses at the plaza to go to different areas of town. The RV park is on a busy street and can be a nuisance getting in or out. It's also for 55 or older customers. Very well managed and maintained with some traffic noise in the front spaces

Of course at least a day around the Plaza. Cathedral and Loretta Chapel, art galleries.

Lunch or dinner out at Rancho de Chemayo. Drive on up to Taos on the Hgh Road to Taos, stop at Truchas and Trampas, San Jose de los Trampas.
Spend a day in Taos.

Drive out to Pecos. Lunch at Frankies at the Cassanova. Vist the Pecos National Monument.

Drive out to Madrid and maybe a day in Albuquerque

Drive up to the Santa Fe ski basin.
