Personally, I think Santa Fe has more to offer than Taos. It's definitely worth going to Taos but I's stay in Santa Fe and do a day trip. You can spend many days in Santa Fe and there always seems to be a festival going on and there are lots of museums and shopping. Drive up to the ski area and do some hiking; attend a concert; drive south down the back side of Sandia Peak - awesome views. Drive to Bandelier Nat'l Monument or Cochiti Lake and walk through nearby Tent Rocks.
