- padredwNomadThe "High Road to Taos" is one of our favorite drives: Cheymayo, Trampas, Truchas, Penasco. (My spelling may be far from correct, but I know these villages and the road very well.)
But, we have never taken our RV over this road. We stay at either Santa Fe (Santa Fe Skies RV) or Taos (Taos Valley RV) and drive, in our case, without our trailer.
In Taos, I suggest a visit to Kit Carson Museum, Michael's Kitchen, and the Martinez hacienda. Parking with an RV in Taos has often been a problem even when we were just passing through. - PenManExplorerI would not do it with my 59 ft. rig. As others have suggested, use your toad and leave the MH in the campground. There are some tight turns.
- PawPaw_n_GramExplorerWe drove NM-518 from Las Vegas to Taos about two years ago. Though we were not pulling the trailer then, I would not hesitate to drive that route in either direction with my current 62' total length rig.
It is a lot of elevation change, so fuel mileage will be very poor.
There was some construction on the section between Penasco and Ranchos de Taos. There were a number of places to pull over and look at the views that would work for our rig.
When I make such a drive, I really like to look at in on Google Maps/Earth and get a feel for how the drive will be. - 2oldmanExplorer IIIt looks like something out of "The long long trailer"
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIHere's a good site and a PDF map.

You 'could' take it with your RV but you'll find many narrow winding areas. Plus, there are many places to explore along the way which would give you a big parking space.
I really think you'd enjoy it more if you just took your towed vehicle. That's what we've done.
We stayed at Santa Fe Skies which was great for touring the area.
There's also the Enchanted Circle drive which is very nice and taking you higher in elevation. You could stay in Eagle Nest for this. Taos Monte Bello is a basic RV park but it has big open sites and is a good base for Taos and the Enchanted Circle. Driving through town is quite an experience. - doublevExplorerGoogle maps is not too helpful because the route is long (65 miles or so).
Wikipedia has info on it "high road to taos"
But I cant find any mention on suitability of the road. I found one article that said it is great to travel in a small rv.. but i didnt know if that meant big rigs couldnt make it through the road or if it was just easier to pull over in a small rv and check out the sites - 2oldmanExplorer III don't know what the High Road is, but has Google maps driven it?
