Searching for Campgrounds - Moab, Utah

Good Morning -

I've been trying to search for RV campgrounds in the Moab, Utah area for several days and the search page just returns an error message. Is this function no longer available? So, since I can't search on my own, I would greatly appreciate any input from anyone that has stayed in the area recently. Our trip will be in October 2016 and we will be visiting Arches, Canyonlands, and Dead Horse Point. (Driving in from San Diego). Looking for campground, points of interest, day hikes, restaurants, etc., that are on your "don't miss" list. Thanks so much and happy trails!

  • Thank you for searching.

Errors in search usually mean it found nothing. That's often the result of using too many words, and, this search isn't google, so it's not too sophisicated. Just type Moab in the 'simple' search box above and you'll find lots.

This is Advanced search, Keyword=Moab, subject only, this forum:

Moab in heading in RV parks

Searching for keywords (one or two) in the heading can pare things down a bit.
  • We stayed at Canyonlands RV park which is a private park downtown. The entrance is sort of small and wierd right at the Texaco station. Any rig can fit. It was pretty easy to get in out but we got there on a Thursday. There is one weekend in October when the kids have a Friday and a Monday off school so it's a big weekend in Moab. Check that issue. It dies down from there out but starts getting colder too.

You can walk to the grocery store and restaurants from the RV park. They are about the best one if you want to be right downtown.

You can access Canyonlands park from the north on Hwy 313 and it's gorgeous.

To access the needles area of Canyonlands park you have to go farther south.

North of town there is an area called Gemini Bridges. Out off the west side of the highway there is a private dry RV parking lot area for $5.00 a night. If you take Gemini Bridges rd it will go up along the rock wall and end up going through a pass and on up to Gemini Bridges. It will end up at 313. 4X4 ONLY. Very nice ride and it lets you see the "backside" of the wall of rock that you see all along the Moab City side.

If you go north of town to 279 and turn left it goes out to the potash farm and there is a trail head that also has a dinosaur tracks in stone.

Down in the Spanish valley area about 9 miles from Moab is Ken's Lake campground. No hook ups but $15.00 and beautiful. You can walk to a small waterfall that comes out of the mountains behind Kens lk and near the entrance of Steel Bender Trail.

If you are near Kens lk you can drive the Lasal loop road that takes you around to the north east and up through Castle Valley. I wouldn't take an RV through there. We also drove into the mountains to Warner and Oowah campgrounds. Tent campgrounds but beautiful in the fall. The Aspen trees even without leaves were stunning.

You can venture out Kane Creek rd between Mc D's and Burger king. People take large FW through the hair pins but it looks sort of wild to me. When you get about 10 miles out the you will see Kane Creek Jeep trail to the left and a camp area on the right and it gets tougher after that. I would drive back there without an RV first. If you continue on past the camp and trailhead you will wander on up through the rocks to a pass and overlook Intrepid Potash on the other side of the Colorado River. It's a rough trail but I took my Dodge 3500 through there with step rails on it. I only rashed the wifes side a little bit. :)

Next time we will do Arches and maybe rent a buggy. We had 5 Jeeps and did Kanes Creek, Steel Bender, Poison Spider, Moab Rim, Golden Crack.
  • I've used rvparky.com and campendium.com to check out different areas.
  • I just stayed at Portal very nice park. I have also stayed at OK Rv Park not very good
  • Did you search this forum? Lots of suggestions over the years.
