Seattle to Glacier NP

Thanks for all the information. I prefer the routes around the Interstates as I almost never drive over 60 when I am pulling, Also, it seems that when ever there is an accident on the interstate it takes forever to clear the roads and you can't turn around. I do like it that the grades are less and there are not as many twists and turns.

Kootenai Falls is between Troy and Libby (west of Libby). It was the end of upstream steam boats. You had to portage around the falls. North of Libby is the Kootenai Dam. The water backs up into Canada. Taking MT Hiway 37 runs along the east side of the lake.

Hwy 2 will slow you down a bit, but a much prettier drive. Also, after Hwy 2 puts you on I-90, stay on it till you get to C/alene, Id, & then north on Hwy 95 to Sandpoint. Much easier, & more scenic, than trying to go thru downtown Spokane.

Think you will enjoy the US 2 routing better, even though on the west side it's kind of curvy in several places; just don't travel it on the weekend. Both routes suggested above have you going through Spokane, US 2 in Spokane is really slow and lots of stop lights. Try to travel it in mid day or better yet on Sunday. Once you get north of Spokane, the route is good and you will enjoy the scenery; Newport, Priest River, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Troy, Libby are all nice towns and no problem on driving through them. Have a good trip!

We will be in spending a week at Tall Chief RV Resort, near Fall City at the end of July after returning from an Alaska cruise. That will be our break after making the trip from Florida to So. Cal. and up the coast. I see that there is construction on I-90 between Seattle and Spokane and Hwy 2 would miss that. I hope that work doesn't divert to much more traffic to Hwy 2.

If your in fall city now, are you at the tall chief or the fall city campground ?

We have pulled our 36 foot 5th wheel both ways without problems. Highway 2 is more scenic.

Over the Cascades in Washington US-2 is a 2 lane highway for the most part. I-90 is a 6+lane freeway and 4 lanes east of the mts. US-2 is very scenic and the grades on both highways are manageable. You need to be on your game driving US-2 on the west side and through the Cascades because this road because it IS a 2 lane highway...lots of lethal accidents between the small towns on the west side. In my opinion US-2 east of the mts. is more scenic than I-90 because it passes through apple country in the Wenatchee Valley and then farm country small towns between Wenatchee and Spokane.

If you have the time and are comfortable with the conditions I describe I'd take US-2 all the way from Fall City to Glacier NP. Drive WA-203 north from Fall City to Monroe where you pick up US-2
