Are you looking to boondock? as in no one else around, usually free or close to it, or looking for a campground that is in a secluded area? as in others around you but not too close.
Boondocking, real boondocking, sites in the north east are pretty sparse. Used to be some in the ADK's that amounted o dirt road pull offs. May or may not still exist.
If you just want a campground that has some room between you and the next guy, check out some state park campground.
You can try looking around on https://freecampsites.net/
Just enter new york, then zoom in on the map and read the specifics on the spots it comes up with. Some might work, most will not.
Most of the free secluded spots have no caretaker, it's first come first served. Not always occupied by the most desirable folks.
National Forest campgrounds might be a good thing to look try if you haven't done so in the past.
