debraindi, even the "off season" of September was surprisingly busy. Lots of folks (like me) in their mid to late 60s, enjoying a little freedom after the children have moved out, looking at the fall foliage. But we found that once we got out onto the hiking trails and walked more than half a mile from the trailhead, we were alone most of the time -- very pleasant!
And I was really surprised at how few campgrounds were big-rig friendly. We have a little trailer, so we had no problem. But I guess the campgrounds were designed and built back in the days before larger rigs became so popular. The campgrounds in Utah, for example, had much more spacious interior roads and sites than in Colorado.
