I've been camping and hunting up on the Cimarron/Silver Jack area since before I could walk. Truly one of the most beautiful areas of CO. I can even pin point exactly where you set up camp.
It used to be only known to locals but more and more folks have discovered the area. Hard to keep such a place a secret!
I've brought a few folks up over the years for the first time and now they always return. Went up just before the Fourth of July just like we did when I was a kid and we barely managed to find a place to set up camp. I hadn't been over there in a few years but I learned not to go there over the long weekends any more!
Your pictures are beautiful! Did you happen to notice the Madonna? Or did anyone point her out to you? There's also what I've called Godzilla rock since I was a wee bit of a child.
My mom and two of my brothers have their ashes up there, as will my dad, brother, myself and my wife some day. This is a truly important area to my family as my mom's family was raised in the area.
I just think it is pretty remarkable that someone on here ventured off the path and found this area. As a side note, the road down to Hwy 50 is much better than the Owl Creek Pass way, though 40 miles longer if you are heading south.
