Shaw Direct Refresh

I put this in the Snowbird Forum as a lot of Canadians monitor it & it only applies to Canadians using Shaw Direct south of the US/Canadian border. Hope that is ok with the administrator, if not feel free to move it.

I was curious if anyone "Refreshed" your Shaw Direct receiver while in the US?
If so did you encounter any problem doing it in the US using the US IP address?

I am assuming that if you did it you were using the Internet using Shaw Direct's website to do the refresh. The best option is to refresh as close to leaving for your US destination, but if any length of time lapses between this & powering up the receiver you might have to refresh.

Thanks for any input on this.
  • The 3rd satellite does not work past Washington state. Which means less HD channels down south.
  • I have used both the larger dish and the original small one as far as Mazatlan and found no difference. That was 2 years ago, has something changed to require the large dish? Thanks in advance. Tom
  • I have the larger dish from Shaw Direct in south Florida & get 98% signal so really don't think you would have any problem with regular size dish ie think my dish (recommended) by Shaw is a bit of overkill. Also there is little worry about not getting HD channels that you were getting before SD put up the newer Satellite as in my case I get all I got before, hope this clears that up.
  • Good to hear "Canuck traveler". Yes. We do recommend the larger dish do to potential signal loss. It really depends where you are. Larger dish is 75cm. Some Winegard trailer mounted dishes should do the trick as well. If anyone is looking to get setup with service or has questions please feel free to contact me.
