shower made from garden sprayer & sink sprayer nozzle??

Can someone help me find this thread, or help me with this problem?

Somewhere I saw (and I think it was on this site) a thread about constructing a camping shower using a garden sprayer and sink sprayer. The pump-up garden sprayer provided pressure and the sink sprayer nozzle was connected to the hose, with a sink sprayer hose added for length.

I'm trying to remember details of how the sprayer hoses were spliced together. I have the parts but the hoses are NOT the same size. The sink sprayer hose is a little larger. The garden sprayer hose is 1/4" ID and the sink sprayer hose is some odd size, maybe 5/16" ID. I can't find a barbed fitting with the right size ends.

All help appreciated!
  • In similar situations, I have wrapped the smaller hose with duct tape, inserted it about an inch into the bigger one, and then used a small hose clamp to seal the connection.

I have also tested one of those garden sprayers as a shower -- it worked, but it was more trouble than it was worth, since we have a shower in our trailer.

By the way, be sure to thoroughly rinse out any lingering insecticide inside the garden sprayer BEFORE you try it out as a shower. Please don't ask me how I know this.
  • Just take the two parts with you to a good hardware or plumbing shop and they will fix you right up
Get some spray paint for plastic or metal (whatever kind of sprayer tank you have) and paint it flat black and heat the water in the sun. Be careful this works REALLY good in the summer .
    Good Luck, Mike
  • Unfortunately the connection for the weed sprayer hose is much larger than the sink sprayer hose.

I found a 1/4-5/16 splicer a couple of places online, but the shipping is pretty steep for one tiny part. (Which is ridiculous.) I'll continue to look for something local.
  • We have one, too......DH used a handheld sink sprayer on a "weed sprayer" for the yard. The sprayer fit in where the hose for the "weed sprayer" would have fit. Easy to do. And yes, it IS a redneck thing but valuable when the grandkids camp with us and when we clean fish. You can wash your hands outside without messing up the inside of the rig. :)
  • I made one of those years ago when I was boating. I used a garden sprayer and a hand held shower head with shut-off. As I recall the two parts fit together without any problem. IRRC I removed the hose from the garden sprayer and attached the hose on the shower head with a hose clamp. If you have two different hose diameters, you should be able to find a barbed hose adapter at a good hardware store. I could get a nice Navy shower with one tea kettle full of water heated to "shower temperature" on the stove. Good luck!
  • I think Jeff Foxworthy did something on that..............
