Singletree Falls and Lower Calf Creek Falls UT -- May 1st

Personally I wouldn't take a 30' 5-er in there without first scoping it out. There are two sites that might fit your rig. But clearance can be an issue for some getting across the stream. I've also been stuck in the CG for some time waiting for someone to figure out how to get their big rig out of the parking lot as there was no way they could turn it around in there. Took a long time for them to back all the way up the access road. Maybe if there were no cars parked it might be doable if one can turn in a 65' area.

There are some fun slot canyons in Escalante to hike.... Spooky Gulch and Peek-A-Boo. Stop at the Escalante Visitor Center for information. We love this whole area.

I was there in April. As IA_boy said, the parking lot is only about 20 cars. There is a campground there but I didn't look to see large the sites were -- most of the people were using tents.

We stayed in Escalante. There's a newer park in town next to the Grand Staircase National Monument information center. There really is a lot to do in this area, you could easily spend 3-4 days there. Kodachrome basin is nearby, some great dirt roads.

After posting that photo, I just noticed for the first time that the cliff to the right of the middle section of the falls is (I think) a fossil dune bed. There are layers in the rock, just like ordinary sedimentary rock. But the layers are not parallel -- they curve and intersect. Similar dune beds are visible in and around Zion.

I was told by a ranger in Zion that the dunes got buried by more and more sand -- eventually the pressure of the sand cemented the buried dunes into those interlocking formations.

Also, one more important point. I am obligated to state that in this shot, DW is wearing baggy hiking pants that were flapping in the strong breeze flowing down the cliff face. Very unflattering and misleading picture. That is not her real "profile," so to speak.

We had no trouble hiking to the falls in April of 2006 -- I am sure that the area is open, even if the campground is not. This is really what it looked like -- the canyon walls were very shiny and green:

By the way, as you are hiking to and from the falls, keep an eye on the rock cliffs on the north and east side of the creek. There are some very large red pictographs -- it is hard to imagine how the artists got access to those sheer walls. Long ladders? Ropes dangling from the mesa above the cliffs?

Hike to the falls is a flat, sand 6 miles round trip.

Not a large parking lot, about 20 cars. Difficult to turn around if lot is busy. There is a turnout on the south side of Hwy 12 about 200 yards east of entrance to the recreation area where I have parked my motor home and hiked to the trailhead.
-Great hike, try to hit the falls about noon for best photo op.

We have hiked to Lower Calf Creek Falls 3 times.

I think Calf Creek has a large parking area as you enter, if your just hiking into the falls maybe you could park there for a few hours.
