Skidaway Island Labor Day Weekend

It's still pretty hot right now, so the no-see ums are still in hiding. Come early October, they will probably be out in full force. Once the day time temps dip below 90 for a handful of days in a row, the no-see ums emerge from their slumber.

The gnats are present pretty much year-round. It will still be pretty warm then, usually. Skidaway is located in the marshlands. Best to be prepared with your Cutter or Deep Woods Off. We usually bring some Yard Guard to spray the perimeter, too.

Bugs weren't too bad this past weekend. We burned citra-nella candles around the trailer and didn't use any bug spray. Kids got chewed on a little more than we did, but overall not as bad as we expected.

FWIW, almost every spot is a pull-through, though not in the conventional sense. Also, the bathroom facility on the back of the campground is the nicest, but its also the least attractive part of the park IMO (but also the least congested area as well).

Go to the Georgia State Parks website and look at the campground map. It tells you right on that map which sites have sewer.

Back from a good weekend at Skidaway, and it is definitely a place we'll have to go back to. Campground was quiet, well-kept, and had clean facilities. Didn't have much of a chance to explore the park, but what we saw was nice. Overall, the park doesn't look much different than the landscape we have here in FL. Our site was #75, and it was quite unlevel, but we managed fine.

We got there about 2 PM, which was perfect timing. The park was very empty, and I believe we were only about the 2nd or 3rd campers to check-in. However, the place turned into a zoo of people trying to find spots around 5/6 PM. Even into the night, it was still a little hectic. Note to self for our upcoming trip to Unicoi: get up early and go!!

Yes, we have a reservation for Friday through Monday. Our site is a 30A water and electric only. Being from FL and spending a lot of time on the Gulf Coast, we're very cognizant of the bugs.
