Smokemont is very wooded but a Class A will go through the roads if you can find a spot to camp. Most this time of year are reserved. If you are coming from Charlot area there is no underpass to worry about.
The temperature will be warm but cool at night. It is a very doable event. There have been rain showers almost everyday which cools things down. Gens can run from 8am until 8pm that should cool any class A down.
The campground is not managed by the Cherokee's as it is in the Natl Park. They do have a private contractor that does manage some of the camping area's.
If you can get two spots I say go for it.
