I was wondering if anyone could tell me if camping in the NPS Smokemont campground would be during August. I am concerned that the temps will be to high. Also, my parents might want to go and take their motorhome. They are wondering if it is open enough to navigate a class a through.Thanks, Jeff

I would check in with the rangers at the site... You are aware there are no hookups here for the air conditioners or the Motorhome...Looks like generators are allowed in certain areas from 8AM to 8PMSMOKEMOUNT NCMy kind of place haha...Roy Ken

Thats what I was worried about. I dry camp a lot in the spring and fall. Not a problem. Open some windows and turn on the fan. I didn't know how much cooler that area would be this time of year. I might just have to wait until later on in the fall or early winter.

IF the Cherokee area is your only option. Wait until late Sept at least. However. IF you want to go dry camping, and want to be in the cool. Try Julian Price, outside of Blowing Rock, or Linville Falls, on the BRP. Both are always cool. AC is not needed, Even on the hottest days down here. Average highs in the 70s

Terry someone in another thread a while back was looki to escape the heat around Charlotte cof course you and I are usually a couplevdegrees cooler than they are, I noticed that up at Stone Mountain State Park on Roaring Gap, that they are about 10 degrees cooler than Charlotte and according to weather dot com, today they are about 12 degrees cooler. So I imagine the rhododendron and moss covered Julian price will be even a tad bit cooler itself. We hope to make it up that way in August or September.
