Hey Terry, hope you guys are well. We were in GSMNP last week and up at the Tenn. state line there was a bit of change hinting. It was 53 degrees and the clouds were blowing across the parking lot on Newfound Gap. In a couple of week it should be nice!

doing great. Hope you are as well.. Ain't it nice up the hill after all the heat?

It's nearly apple time up at Sugarloaf. WINESAPS, and Stamin. Can't wait. They tend to bit back.

  • We are in PF now. Just a hint of change now. Very dry. May well be short season. May go from green to brown to bare
  • They were starting to change last week on the Blue Ridge above 3000 feet. IF you want to come over to the Blue Ridge. Stop at Price Lake on the Parkway, go out on the lake, and look up. It is like being in a leaf bowl.
Most of the NC Mountains are not in the Smokeys

I think early to mid evening is best, when the lovely waning amber daylight illuminates the leaves. That's true for any year, not just this year.

    :p :B
  • Good thing is you can change altitude if you don't hit it on perfect timing. Hike to Alum Cave Blufff offers a great view as well as hiking through the woods.
  • Check out their Facebook page. They give regular updates there.

The last one said there is starting to be color at about 3000 feet.

Generally the 2nd-3rd week in October is peak.
  • THere are a number of websites that track fall leaf color: Link

There are others if that one doesn't prove helpful, use your search engine to find more.
