For our 6 night stay in the area in 2014, we did not stay too close to Gatlinburg. We stayed 15-20 minutes outside, and we do not regret doing so!
"Crazy Horse" now called "Adventure Bound", was the best decision we made while we had the TT in the area. That's IF...you have kids. No kids...then may be stay in/near town.
