For what you mentioned you want to do, Smokybear is a good location to be in. You can be in Gatrlinburg and the park in 15-20 minutes. Yuo can cut across the back roads and be in Pigeon Forge in about the smae time, maybe a little longer. And then you will not be too far from I-40 to cut over to Asheville.
