Smoky Mountains Campground Suggestions Internet

I am looking for RV campgrounds in the Smoky Mountains where I can get internet installed for a month or so. I work for software company and need a lot of bandwidth so even if I can get temporary installation for broadband thats ok. Sadly I am not retired as of yet! LOL

I dont have any expectation of using the campground wifi, my need for bandwidth and reliability would probably exceed their capabilities. Also my bandwidth requirements exceed what most mobile plans offer

I can work remotely but have that internet bandwidth requirement

If anyone has any suggestions or have similar circumstance please let me know.... hopefully a higher elevation with cooler temps, a shaded spot overlooking a babbling creek (I know I am dreaming)

Thanks!

Check out Technomadia. They are a fulltime couple that are in the technology field and offer good advice about being connected on the road. It's not cheap by any means, but they do not go and sit for months at a time at RV parks. A lot of their time is boondocking. Lots of videos on their YouTube channel.
  • There are several "ownership" campgrounds in that area where you can rent sites when the owners of the site are not using them. I've seen one or two campgrounds where people have customized their sites with storage buildings, fireplaces, etc. I wonder if any of those have personalized utility connections with dedicated internet? I'd look into River Plantation, Outdoor Resorts Gatlinburg, and The Dell (which I think is Class A only?). It's a long shot but who knows?
  • Thanks everyone for the responses... so quick!

Yeah I could survive with DSL... 4-5 mbps download and 1-2 mbps upload would probably be minimum

I do a lot of remote troubleshooting of large customers so am dialed in a lot with them, also download large log files and diagnostics so thats why I need the internet

  • Cove Mountain Resort in Sevierville also advertises long term sites with cable TV. So you might have the ability to get connection at your site. They are also on Wears Valley Road. 3958 Wears Valley Rd, Sevierville, TN 37862

  • Riverside RV Park and Resort in Sevierville has modem. Not sure if at sites or in office.
Cove Creek RV Resort & Rentals in Sevierville (8 miles from town) has telephone hookups at the sites that you can have connected. I would call them. Nice park, quiet on Wears Valley Road.
  • What I would do is scour the internet of RV parks. Type up a generic email telling them who you are and what you are tring to accomplish. Pull an email address to them and BCC them in the one email, you might get some bites that way.
  • Try some of the places like Sevierville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Cosby, Cherokee, Townsend etc that has long term RV camping. They will probably be your best bet in being able to get internet cabled directly to your campsite. Or you may want to see if there is anytone with a private site on their land. You might be able to get it installed there.

My favorite camping spot is ELKMONT Campground inside the SMOKY MTN NATL PARK which has virtually no cell phone service except at overlooks for Gatlinburg and maybe one spotty TV channel at the camp ground... There is NO HOOKUPs in any of the Natl Park camp grounds where the bubbling brooks are located...

Have no idea what the three local towns of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Townsend offer for high speed data Internet. Townsend would be my choice for getting away from the tourist crowds and shops...

  • Probably not going to happen. You might check with the cable providers in Hendersonville or Brevard and see if their techs know of any place. ATT-Uverse customer service is useless since it is in Paki-nowhere, but somebody like Time-Warner might have a local phone contact.
