Yes, I think Texas is a marvelous snowbirds destination. Huge state, lots to see and do, acres and acres to get lost in. Lots of oil workers to meet and greet, and if you are an early riser you can be up with them at 5:00 AM. Honest, down to earth true Americans, the last "cowboys" and their many stories are quite interesting. I'm sitting in Fort Stockton "as we speak". Truly a marvelous state and a great place to spend the winter. I'm sincere about that, I love Texas, just don't want to spend my winters there.
Oh, BTW, I spend my winters in Arizona. I and my arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis) prefer low humidity and next to no rain. Oh, it rains, it just never makes it to the ground, or, if it does, it only last 10 minutes or so. Shopping... Safeway, Wal-Mart, Ace hardware, 5 really good restaurants, and a donut shop to die for all within walking distance, even for my arthritic knees. Not much to do though. Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone, Bisbee, mines, ghost towns, old ICBM missile museum, USAF plane boneyard, theaters in Sierra Vista, sports in Tucson, big shopping in both Sierra Vista and Tucson and when you get bored, there is always Mexico 45 minutes away that has bargain health services, eclectic knick-knacks, handmade western wear and real Mexican food. There are about a dozen of us and we call ourselves the Butterfield Rough Riders that take our SxS rides out in the mountains around the area, lots of land open to UTVs and scenery you can only see by using them. We have the usual "old folks fair", line dancing, more potlucks than you can shake a spoon at, bingo, dance parties at our park and open invites to many other parks in the area, craft clubs, woodworking shop on-site, ham radio shack on-site and did I mention that we are the only RV Park with a college level observatory right between our driving range and Pickleball court? Heaven forbid, but, if something happens, we have a hospital across the street past the post office and the Tractor Supply. All of this comes with a penalty though...trains at all hours. They annoy some folks, but, those of us that call Butterfield home for 6-7 months don't notice them, just background noise. Butterfield RV Resort and Observatory.
So let's hear it for Texas!!! Don't want AZ to get too crowded ??
