Solar to keep stored battery charged?

I have a TT that I store without power. I would like to use a solar to keep the battery charged. I have seen cheep solar kits on ebay for 180. Waste of money or do you think It would do the job? 100 watt panel and contoler by windy nation.

  • With sun and only fridge on gas + detector being used, as long as the gas holds out.
  • Would this be enough to keep the fridge running while not plugged in ? If so how long could it sustain the battery with the fridge on?
  • I have that Windy Nation kit. Installed it in the spring, and camped two separate weeks with no hookups. Never dropped below 12.5 v on the battery, and we didn't conserve electricity. But, we aren't huge electric users, either. Water pump, lights.

Not sure where you saw $180 for the kit, though. I paid $214, then saw it for $160 a couple months later, but that only lasted about a week.

I like the kit. Came with everything you need for what you are wanting to do. I did a no-screw mount on my trailer, so I got some aluminum bracing, and some 3m VHB tape. Still on, after 3000 miles of travel.

Do you ever have a need for solar power when camped?
100 watts and no just to keep the battery topped off.
