As of about 3 weeks ago, Oceano was closed for renovation. I am talking about the state CG. San Luis Obispo County also has two CGs in the area with hookups. The one very near the state CG is small and nice. The one on Highway 1 is not so nice.

The problem with the Oceano CGs are that the closest beach is where they have automobile/ATV access.

Beware of Pacific Dunes Ranch. Used to be a fairly good spot, but has gone downhill rapidly. Went through it a couple weeks ago and it looked really bad. Too bad because it's not a bad location.

I was just there today (driving through in the car, not the RV). On our way through the area we decided to stop in and check it out since we have reservations there in June.

I don't know what it looked like before, because I've never been there; but it's nothing like the photos on their website. Everything is dead, and there are tons of permanent residents living there, with stuff sprawling all over the place.

We called Thousand Trails this afternoon when we got home and cancelled our reservations. Even convinced a manager not to charge me the $25 cancellation fee.

Jalama Beach is a great place. close to Hollister Ranch surf spots.
but it's a drive to get there and very popular with the locals.
so getting a site takes some planning.

Another vote for Morro Bay. Roughly half way between Santa Barbara and Monterey. You will find fishing charters. Paso Robles, Cambria, San Luis Obispo all near by.

Make sure to check your rig size and Pacific Coast Hwy if that is the route you are taking. Breathtaking views but I wouldn't do it in larger rigs.

Depends on whether it's 101 or Highway 1.
Parts of PCH can have both.
101 is fine for large rigs.
Parts of Highway 1 are not.

I don't know about fishing charters in the area but we've stayed at Morro Dunes RV Park several times.
