Southeast Kayaking Campgrounds

We just picked up a few kayaks and was wondering of some good places to camp at where we can use the kayaks. We know of the COE places. We are also heading to Julian Price memorial Park on the BRP where there is Price Lake and we can use them there.

What's your favorite places?

  • Myakka River State Park just out of Sarasota FL is a popular place to paddle and feed the gators.
  • Although not having water at the park, Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park in Crystal River, FL has great kayaking waters nearby. Rainbow Springs in Dunnellon, Kings Bay area in Crystal River, and Homosassa River in Homosassa are all within 20 minutes of Rock Crusher. Might be worth a look for you. Many kayakers winter there for sure.
  • You might like the NFS Cedar Point Campground in Croatan National Forest. Not far from Emerald Isle, but a world away. Lots of kayaking in Bogue Sound (ICW). Plenty of small islands in the sound with beaches. Restaurant docks in Swansboro.
  • Riverside RV Resort, Port Charlotte, FL is located on the Peace River.
Guntersville State Park, Guntersville, AL is located on the Tennessee River
The estuary located on the Alabama Gulf Coast

  • One of our favorites is Hillsborough River State Park in Florida.
We are currently in Murrells Inlet, SC and the kayaking here on both the inlet and off the Waccamaw River is wonderful.
  • Laniers Camp Ground at Topsail Beach just before going over the bridge.
    Great paddling in the ICW

All four of the Florida Keys State Parks
New river State Park in NC
Wilsons River Front RV park in Asheville on the French Broad river
Rainbow Springs State Park in Florida.
Silver river State Park in Silver Springs , Florida
Okeefeenokee Swamp, ( a park at the south end and one at the north end)
