The best CG near there is WillowTree in Longs, SC. It is beautiful. We loved it.

In truth. Willow tree is farther away from Southport than either the Wilmington KOA, which is closest, or MBTP.
Wilmington KOA is only 40 min away. MBTP is 70, and Willow T is 90.

It really is sad there are no oceanfront CG closer to Southport.

However. You can try Holden Beach RV Resort, and Ocean Aire. Both close to Southport, and there are short cut roads from Holden To 211 into Southport
  • A correction to Terryallan ...There is at least one oceanfront campground between MB and Topsail, there may be others, but the Holden Beach fishing pier / campground is open and oceanfront. It is not big and not fancy not a lot of amenities but it stays pretty busy during the season. Don't know their rates etc. but I live down the road from them and they are open and oceanfront. Will not likely help the op since it is about 45 minutes to Southport. If more info is needed call Holden Beach fishing pier 9108426483 or send me a message and I will stop by there and get some info for you. Also there is a new CG just off Holden Beach, just opened in the last year. Can't recall the name but if interested let me know and I will find out. It would be about 30-45 minutes to Southport. Don't know of any in Southport.
  • I found a Woodside RV Park in Southport that fared ok on Trip Adivisor. Upon more searching I have found it listed as Woodside RV and Trailer Park. Normally I would not go to a place with trailer park in the name, but the trip advisor reviews seems promising. Might be worth taking a look at, especially if you want to be right there in Southport. According to google maps, it looks like there is a Walmart across the street from it, which is convienant.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park, Or The Wilmington KOA. The Shalotte KOA would be the closest to Southport. Fact is. There are NO good CGs near Southport. In fact there are NO oceanfront CGs between MBTP, and Surf City Family CG on Top Sail Island, North of Wilmington.
There are some back inland. But they are mostly trailer parks, and mostly permanent trailers.

Unless you want to stay is a NC state park with no hookups. and ride the ferry over, and unless you are a Veteran. I believe you can stay in the Military recreation area at Fort Fisher, and again ride the ferry to Southport.

Opps. Just read Shalotte KOA is closed
