Spots in Sierras north of interstate, Yuba -> Nevada?
Trip planning! I'm thinking hwy 49, along the river, but I'd like to do some side trips off it. Anybody have a favorite boondocking spot, hiking trail, swimming hole?

Lakes Basin area, straddles the divide between Tahoe and Plumas NFs. Take the Gold Lake Highway north from the Bassets area. There is a Recreation Area where camping is restricted to established campgrounds, but outside that zone dispersed camping is allowed, and you are still within a few minutes drive to the lakes.
Numerous trails ranging from short and paved to primitive backcountry goat tracks. Fishing in the lakes. Eureka State Park nearby (gold mine ghost town).
