Spring Break..Where Is It Warm Close to Missouri??

We recently purchased a new Cougar Fifth Wheel...327RES and can't wait to get to use it! Here is our dilemma...we live in Central Missouri and will make our maiden voyage over Spring Break at the end of March. We would like to stay as close as possible but hopefully get some where warmer...obviously South. We will watch the weather, but didn't know if traveling south into Arkansas would be far enough south to pick up a little warmer weather for the Maiden Voyage? If so does anyone have suggestions about nice camping in Arkansas?

Any other ideas? We basically want to get out in tne new Fiver close to home but warmer! Thanks!
  • St Andrews State Park, panama
City beach, Florida......14 hours from Missouri but so worth it. It won't be hot, but better than Missouri.
  • Been over 45 years since I went to college in Lubbock & can't remember how March/April were too well. But it could be not too chilly at all.

In West Texas, Near Amarillo: Never been to the state park, but have read about it & would like to make it over there someday. Palo Duro Canyon State Park as well as Caprock Canyons State Park, from what I have read, seem like very neat areas to see.

Southeast of Amarillo & Southwest of Quanah: Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway would make a neat place to check out. One I would like to see. Has a Bison herd I have read.

Ditto, Copper Breaks State Park near Quanah sounds pretty cool (as in neat to see).

Depending on where in MO & where in West Texas, something like 600 miles + or - 9 hrs + or -.

Warmer still in the San Antonio Area & the :C Texas Hill Country.

Should be a nice time to visit the :)Big Bend Area. We really enjoyed Balmorhea State Park & checking out Fort Davis Nat'l Historic Site.

We did Big Bend on one our Spring Breaks some years ago. End of March, Start of April.

And the new Boquillas Port of Entry might be some you would want to do. Not something we have done or would do.

Any place but Iowa! I don't think its ever going to warm up here again. I'm in the process of trying to talk the DW into a trip to Southern MO or into Arkansas in late March. So far all I have gotten from her is a sideways look and when I press for a response its a "I don't know yet"! She is trying to schedule her vacation at work so she can stretch it out til July for the new vacation year to start.
  • When we bought our trailer last year we took it out late March. We couldn't wait any longer and the anticipation was building. lol If memory serves temps were in the 50's and 60's. It wasn't too bad and great campfire weather. As others have said all of the state parks in Arkansas are very nice. I hear that Catherine's Landing in Hot Springs is very nice. If you don't want to go that far south than definitely look at the Corps of Engineers parks around Beaver Lake. All are very nice. Although some may not open till April.
    Good luck and enjoy!!

    Cancun Mexico ....maybe?
  • Arkansas will not be warm at that time but it may be a little less cold. You will need to go a little further South and out of the mountains more. Hot Springs has several lakes and nice State Parks.
    Lake Catherine
(as before mentioned) is very nice and convenient to Hot Springs. They have several private RV parks also, if you prefer them.
I assume you have kids since it's "spring break"
Mid America Museumis fun for kids and adults. If you like amusement parks Magic Springs is there.
You'll for sure want to eat atMcClards' BBQ and maybe Rod's Pizza Cellar

A good day trip would be to drive down to Murfreesboro to the
Crater of Diamonds to dig for diamonds. It has it's own RV park but not much else to do in the area except in summer.
  • Don't know about how much warmer Arkansas will be, but Petit Jean is a beautiful park. And not much further is Mount Magazine, which has some amazing views and a totally awesome lodge. The Corp Park at Greer's Ferry is a very nice park, as is the John F. Kennedy Recreation Area & Campground near Heber Springs, AR. Enjoy your break. We're from mid-MO and heading to NOLA the end of March. Trying to get in between the spring breakers.
