I have an idea of a trip before kids go back to school. We are 4.5 hours away and the goal is to catch some amazing top of mountain views. Question is .... Worth it? Are there any campgrounds nearby ...

I agree with downtheavenue that strictly for views, Skyline Dr would be best. Loft Mtn probably the best campground there. But there are many great camogrounds that don't have the views but have more to offer liek Goose Point, Sherando lake and Trout Pond.
