Or, if you wish, you could take the Marine Highway Ferry from Bellingham to Alaska. Avoids Canada altogether and allows you to carry your guns.

Not a good idea. Ferry stops at Prince Rupert, BC, and if it breaks there, You are SOL. Gotta' get off, but can't get off. A few years ago the captain of the tour boat Lulu Belle broke down on the way from Washington state to Valdez and had to put in to BC. Major, Major, Major, problems as he had at least one pistol onboard. Almost lost the tour boat, but legal fees were for sure involved.
Great point..so much so I am going to call the offices in the morning and see what the response is. I wonder of there is a contingency for this.
From the Marine Highway website..Firearm Transport (-)
Walk-on passengers traveling with legal firearms or weapons on AMHS vessels are required to check these items with an AMHS loading officer. All firearms must be unloaded and ammunition stowed separately from the firearms.
Ammunition
Small quantities of ammunition (Not to exceed 100 kg (220.5 lbs.) for handguns, rifles and shotguns, may be transported by passengers provided they are securely packaged and carried separately from any firearm that is being transported. No black powder in any quantity is allowed. Customers should check with local terminal staff for the AMHS policy on transporting firearms.
From the horses mouth..Kyle at Alaska Marine Highway offices...their ships DO NOT sail to Prince Rupert..it is a thru sailing to US/Alaska waters.Gary Haupt
