Starved Rock

I camped at Starved Rock many years ago and plan on going back this summer. I remember that one section of the campground was much nicer than the other. Anyone familiar with the campground that can give me some insight? I'll be in a 35' TT.
  • If it was many years ago, things have probably changed. Get your reservation now if you haven't already. It is always full and day use visitors are turned away on holiday weekends as the park reaches capacity. Traffic backs up for miles on I-80 with people coming to the park. They now get 3 million visitors during their season. There should be a lot of information with photos online.
  • There is one section that is in the woods and the rest are all in the open, at least in one of the campgrounds. Early spring is the time to go as that is when all the waterfalls are flowing. A tornado or high winds hit it last year and they were closed for our spring trip so that might of changed things a bit.
  • The newer section is the West loop. the sites are less wooded, easier for big trailers. Some 50 amp sites, but mostly 30 amp.

Thank you, just the info I was looking for. Making reservations tomorrow.
