State Fair Grounds Springfield, Illinois

Question

Has anyone stayed at the State Fairground in Springfield, Illinois? Are there any safety issues there? Not sure what the neighborhood is like, but usually fairgrounds are not in the greatest areas of town. Will be headed there next month.

I have stayed in the campground on the fairgrounds many times in the past 50+ years and never had any problems.

If you are going to the fair this year, you may not be able to get a campsite; the campground is frequently full before the fair starts.

I have stayed there and felt very secure. There is a host on duty and the area around the grounds looks like a nice residential area.

The Illinois State Fair is happening right now.  If you're visiting next month, that won't be a problem.

They will be very busy Labor Day weekend for the motorcycle races.

Stayed there one night a few years ago and it was fine.  Almost couldn't sleep because of all the bright security lights.
