Being stealthy does not imply that what we are doing is illegal. I visited relatives in a very expensive area of California. We checked in advance with the police department. There was an ordinance on overnight parking. Any car parked at the side of a street had to be moved at least once every 30 days. There was no mention of sleeping or "camping". So why be stealthy? Who wants a trailer camp on the neighborhood streets? Out of politeness and to prevent some new ordinance, we camped quietly or, if you prefer, stealthy. We did not get out the lawn chairs or BBQ or turn up the music. I am sure the police and the neighbors kept track of us. On day 27, we received a notice that we needed to move within 3 days. We were actually moving on the next day. Staying that long was a one time, special event. We have stayed at the same place or visited other relatives in other cities and done the same with no incidents. The only places I have seen with strictly enforced ordinances are in resort locations. The campground owners want the business and the local residents don't want hordes of RVers on the streets.
