While I admit I didn't read every word, the first question that comes to mind is "why"?

It's a need-to-know category, jfkmk. Very hush-hush...stealthy, even. And sadly...you aren't in the right category.

a couple things could be stated a little more clearly
prime example

"not less than 15ft" yada yada

"No Closer than 15ft..the more the better" is stating it more directly and clearly

i like the idea of using google maps before hand

Many of the pics show leveling boards under the tires. Stealth parking to me would be looking as though I was just parked for a lunch break.

Ah, I get it, Gary. :-). My idea of camping is hanging outside at night enjoying nature by the fire. When I do go into the camper at night, it's usually with the windows open and the shades up until we're ready for bed. I can almost see doing an overnight at a Walmart or Cracker Barrel if I'm trying to get from point a to point b as fast as I can and don't want to set up and break camp. You're right, though. There's a "hush hush" group of people who sleep in their vehicles in remote parking lots, train yards, etc with windows covered hoping no one will notice they're there. They're known as the homeless. While I give to charities devoted to getting the homeless off the streets, I can't see trying to emulate the life style.

I think about places to hide all the time.

jfkmk...in the article, the author says he has been full timing for six years. If one calculates $30 a night, we have $900 a month...which is $10,800 a year, which is about $65,000 over six years. I think I understand why he might be doing it.

If your travel see you mostly in the east, you probably don't see the huge numbers of people that do live this way. Yes, many are homeless, but many are simply choosing this method as a way of stretching their available resources. And then there are the many that just choose to do it for whatever reasons they have.

I was saying that tongue in cheek, Gary. But in reality if I find I need to sleep in industrial parking lots and on city streets with the windows blacked out to avoid detection, I'd rethink my choices. I would also consider a job somewhere to supplement my income to avoid needing to live like that. If the guy was retired law enforcement I'm sure he can find something

Every time "stealth" camping is mentioned, it becomes an argument and results in attacks from those that don't understand.

Stealth campers are criticized as homeless, and/or criminals, and/or vagrants, and/or parasites on society.

To get ahead of the curve, I will present my definition of "stealth" camping/parking;
The act of legal and ethical overnight parking or camping in a manner which does not call attention to oneself.

Others may have a different definition.
