Intend to visit there July (if reserved) and wonder as to the geographical characteristics of the campground. Different elevations, trees, FAVORITE campsites??? ANY HELPFUL EXPERIENCED ADVICE IS APPRE...

You can make reservations 6 months in advance. If you are planning on being there on a weekend in July and want a prime spot, you better reserve now.
Pine beetle kill has devastated the area. It is still one of my favorite places to go, but it isn't the same as it was 10 years ago.
Yarrow Loop and Bridge Island are closest to the water. Wheeler Loop, Lupine, and Rosecrown are very good if you don't have a boat.
Pearl Lake is nearby, has a campground, and is less busy than Steamboat Lake.
