I'm also ridiculing the AARP, a for-profit insurance company, who periodically sends me mailers explaining that unless I send them money, they might not be able to continue BLOCKING ANY REFORM of social security for people in their 20s--thereby endangering it for people in their 50s. Carlisdad, I'm certainly not ridiculing you. IIRC, you've been involved in the MVUM debate for your local forest (was that the Stani?) for the last decade. I think you're aware that is our opportunity to have a voice in the management of these lands.
The sad fact is that most of us who enjoy these lands for recreation did not bother to show up at those meetings, and the process was dominated by out-of-area tree-huggers and of course the forest product industry. That's democracy for you.
