Target & Home Depot

I am familiar with Walmart policy on overnighting but was wondering what the general policy of Target, Home Depot & Lowes is? Never seen much mention of them & for once there is no Wally handy where we might want a quick in & gone.
  • i don't know about other areas but in portland they are cracking down on the 100s of rv's the homeless are living on the streets in.they are trying to move on to home depot ect. I was at home depot last night and they were making two motorhomes leave. i think it will be harder to find places in the large metro areas to boon dock because of this
  • This reminds me of the vacations my parents took me on in the late '60s and early '70s, in a 22' Winnie (complete with shag carpeting and a built-in vacuum). Dad was always in a hurry to reach the destination. Many times he'd pull into a gas station around 10 or 11 pm and tell the attendant he'd fill the gas tank if he could park behind the building for the night. They almost always said sure, go ahead. If they say no, Dad would get back inside and drive to the next station.

Having stayed at a few Kmarts over the years and a couple of Lowes - we usually just call and talk to the manager, just like with Wal*Mart, in our 45+ years - One Wal*Mart - One Lowe's - and one Kmart have said NO, so you should be able to work it out.

    Best of Luck,
  • Here it depends on the store. Our Target's and Lowes' around here were "Our policy is to make sure we don't need to make a policy..."

Was working ok until we had quite a few less-fortunate folks set up camp in a Target lot. Got too much for the mgmt to handle and the police got involved.
  • Thanks. Kinda thought so. Usually go in & check, even at Walmarts just to be sure. Have an express Albuquerque NM back to Eastern Shore, MD run coming up.

Walmart is entertaining but the others should be much quieter.
  • I agree with asking. All you mentioned locally have very large parking lots. Although not commen for those, I have occasionally seen an RV at one or the other. Much easier parking lot access than the Walmart a couple blocks away.

Probably any of the public store fronts will allow it. We always look for other campers doing it first but always go inside and let management know we are parking over night...

We have parked over night at many places other than WALMART... BASS PRO SHOP sometimes has 20A Service hookups to use...

Sitting at RV Dealer lots works too...

Got run off from a Church parking lot one time haha... I even told them I was Baptist - Still got run off...

Have stayed in many hotels parking spaces and gone inside and got donuts and coffee the next morning at their good morning bar...

Best thing to do is just go inside and ask permission

  • Pull in be quiet and not a PIA. Do not set up a camp. Overnight and go. No long term and you should be okay unless there is a sign posted.

Try church parking lots also. Except Saturday night
