Riding that cycle is absolutely invigorating. Whether we're riding through the redwoods or the sequoias, or through a redrock canyon, on on the beach in Baja, or over in Monument Valley, nothing beats that ride. We use the cycle all the time, to get groceries, to trail heads, sight seeing or whatever. I go by myself on technical trail riding.
Yep ... used to do it offroad in the desert a lot in Utah while in the AF there for 4 years. Had a Honda 305 Scrambler combination onroad/offroad bike. I rode double with the DW across the Great Salt Lake on the no-trespassing railroad rock causeway that crosses the North end of the lake - had a train traveling at full cruising speed come along while we were on the causeway. I shut off the bike and both of us and the bike curled up on the ground while that freight train passed us 3 feet away going 50-70 MPH. After getting off the causeway across part of the lake and onto the pennisula that juts out into the North end of the lake, we almost sunk the bike in soft lake mud. I had the DW get off early, and I had to walk it out of the sinking stuff back up to solid ground.
After we got back to CA, we bought a new Dodge van and converted it into a van camper. I built a swing-down rack of my own design on the back extending off the ends of the two frame members and we took that Honda on two-week vacations in the western states - including traveling out in the middle of nowhere with it riding on what was left of the original Golden Spike railway track in the Utah desert. Three of us were on the Honda - the DW, our tuff-as-nails dog, and myself. What a blast!
By the way, what do you think of that off-road Rokon two wheel drive motorcycle that I gave the link to earlier?
