Turkey is a real neat town. Ive been there for Bob Wills day in april

Ok, I might be able to get to both now. Looks like 2 days at each, which probably won't be enough. Hopefully I made a good decision.

Have been to both, but like Caprock Canyon more. It is great seeing the Bison roam around the park and campsites.

We prefer Caprock - we like the isolated nature and smaller size of the park. Caprock is a nice unusual geology for much of Texas, but it isn't that 'unique'. We just like the park/ town better. And that Caprock has 35 rv type sites vice 79 at Palo Duro.

You cannot go wrong visiting Palo Duro. It should be on everyone's must visit list. You would have to go several hundred miles to find similar geology.

Thanks everybody. Wish I had more time to explore the whole area, might have to wait until retirement lol.

We have been to both also and I preferred Caprock Canyon. Palo Duro has more to do but my personal choice would be Caprock Canyon. We had some good adventures there that stick in my mind more than the trip to Palo Duro. Just me.

Probably the Mesquite camp area. And the reason is, as others have mentioned, the utter lack of cell phone coverage anywhere closer to the entrance.

We had a campsite at Hackberry campground but absolutely no cell phone signal there.

Moved farther into the canyon to the aforementioned Mesquite campground, and although not the best signal, it was surely better than none at all.

We liked both but would prefer Palo Duro if we could only see one. The only downside we found to Palo Duro was the lack of cell phone coverage in the bottom of the canyon where the campgrounds are. If you don't have a state park pass, you may want to get one depending on how long you plan on staying. I believe Palo Duro is $7/night per person without it.
