Texas State Parks

Iam on the road....stayed in a Texas State park in N Texas.....It was fairly run down and unkept compared to fed parks.....but the real kicker was the cost......$5.00 /each/per day entrance plus $16.00 for 30 amp/water.per day.We have stayed in beautiful Rv resorts in Reno and Colorado for less....I will never stay in another Texas State Park.

  • Dan....WE have stayed at the Marina Rv resort in Reno ...22.00/day and Blue Spruce Rv resort at the lake outside Durango Co. at around 17.00/day. just in response to pifff...? It does exist.
And BTW reservations for a certain spot do not apply...it only means you will get somewhere.....I even contacted my congressman and talked to one of the head honchos in TPW about the fact that reservations were not solid.....seems TPW is poorly administrated like DPS/DMV.

I totally agree. The SP in Texas are trashed out, over priced rip offs and everyone down there are rude.
    That park pass is worthless.

I highly advice everyone to stay away from my parks.

Now maybe I can get a camp site :)

    pffft.....
  • Depends on the number of days you stay in a Texas State park and how much you travel around. With your membership you do NOT pay the daily $5.00 fee plus you get half of the second day of camping, then the next State park you go to the same applies. We stayed in some very nice Texas state parks last winter while we travelled Texas.
  • Ditto; buy the state parks card for $60 and go to any state park, historical site, or natural area for free (for everyone in your vehicle). I think that's a steal. Even with the entrance fees, I think our state parks are a bargain - just shop some private parks and see for yourself.

As for Colorado: I doubt you've stayed in a "resort" for less than $16. Or Reno. However, if you have, I'd say those were a bargain too!

I'll put the Texas State Park system up against any state's parks. Personally, I think they're too cheap - as evidenced by the difficulty in getting a reservation.
  • They are not all like that. many have been updated with full hookup concrete level pads and have beautiful scenery.
YOu can't judge the whole state on one campground.
We also have a Texas parks membership, so we don't pay the daily entrance fee.
  • Yea we stayed at a Texas State park this last July and had made the reservation online for 2 spots and when we got there we found out that you had to pay $7 per day per adult for usage fee. Plus you couldn't buy firewood or ice. We had a family gathering for 4 days so I guess we paid some of the state bills. Now I know why the spots were $25 per night. Outrageous
  • I avoid Texas state parks also. They charge an entrance fee the day you check in and another for the next day when you leave.
