Id recommend sticking with your original plan. Sounds like a fun trip!
RMNP anywhere near july 4th means its going to be VERY busy. Id recommend taking that trip on the edge of the off season and use the extra days to fully enjoy/explore it. the whole Estes Park area is nice and there is a ton of things to do
