The geese are honking

Geese can be a certain sign of fall, but it's still September. This reminded me of a poem that my 4th grade teacher drilled into our minds way back in the fall of 1959. It's called September and was written by Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885). Please bear with me on this one as I still haven't forgotten the first stanza.

THE golden-rod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest,
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook-side
Make asters in the brook,

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.

But none of all this beauty
Which floods the earth and air
Is unto me the secret
Which makes September fair.

'T is a thing which I remember;
To name it thrills me yet:
One day of one September
I never can forget.

Maybe Sue could take Ron to local Humane Society, get a really large, mean dog. Tie him in the middle of their lakeside lot. He will chase those geese away. Then Susie could patrol streets in Green Gate, when they return to Texas!

They are still poopin in my yard in MN.

We don't have to wait to winter for all the pesky geese. They have moved in year round down here.

We have been seeing geese flying by for the past 3 or 4 weeks now. We will be heading in the same direction in another month or so.

Well the geese might be honking up North but the true sign winter is coming is all the MH's I saw yesterday on I-75! :B

At the cottage all week, 75mi north of Ottawa.
We hear honking all day, very high up so they're coming from far away.

They are starting to gather here. We really noticed quite a few of those V shaped patterns and the tell tale honks this past week....... Let me warn you lot down south, around us, the population of geese this summer seemed to have increased quite a lot.

Yep, lots of them here. But the surest sign of the approaching snowbird season is the sudden increase of traffic on this forum.:B

Havent heard any geese yet but did see my first group of Starlings last week. Thousands of them moving across the skies... This happens here in the winter months...
