Better still, pics taken by the poster. Very easy to rattle off some landmark & a location.
I might just revive a thread I started a few years ago to relieve winter travel withdrawls. Post a picture & turn it loose for a couple days to identify where it is. The person identifying the location posts the next one & so on.
I loved that thread!
Doug - AtleeExplorer IIFor LA - I'd say the HOLLYWOOD sign.

Doug - 4runnerguyExplorerHey, let's not let this thread die. How about:
San Antonio, TX - The Alamo
Boston - Faneuil Hall (Or the USS Constitution, or Old North Church or . . . lots of possibilities there)
Canton OH - Pro Football Hall of Fame - 4runnerguyExplorer

True. The exterior scenes of "The Shining" were filmed as above.
The interior of the hotel was filmed in England.
The Stanley is also where Stephen King stayed and got the idea for the novel. You can still stay in room 217 where King and his wife stayed, the only guests in the motel that night!
I went to my friends wedding at the Stanley many decades ago. The view of RMNP out the windows definitely kept my attention more than the ceremony at the front of the room! (Hope they don't read this. :W) - LaurenExplorerNot exactly - relative to The Shining.
Many people think "The Shining" movie was filmed at the Stanley Hotel but it was actually shot at the Timberline Lodge up on Mount Hood in Oregon. And also in Britain as mentioned.
The latter TV series - some say Stephen King was not happy about the movie - was indeed shot at the Stanley. We lived there then and it was an interesting experience witnessing that. We met Stephen King and have two personally autographed copies of the book by him. We met and chatted with the co stars - Steven Weber and Rebecca De Mornay - at a local favorite coffee shop. I was accepted as an extra but found it it meant like 6 days of be there at 4am and you would leave around 8-9pm for like 5-6 days in a row. But I would be one of the people in the scene where it was all people with masks and costumes so no one would ever see if was me. I backed off.
I think Ken stated it right as to being an inspiration. - buta4Explorer
