As we were taking this shot, there were two or three bull elk in the forest around us, bugling at each other. We were very careful not to get too close to them.
Reading this brought back some memories from a couple years ago. I am actually fortunate enough to live in an area that get frequented by lots of wildlife including mass amounts of elk. In fact the first week we were at this house, I notice a lot of elk and yelled out to my wife, "hey, check out all of the elk outside" She responded with, " which window" and my response was "all of them". That was no joke as there were about 100 - 150 elk outside on our property.
Anyway, during the rut later that fall, I was woke at about 3am... all windows were closed but there was a loud noise coming from outside. Two bulls were facing off and determining domination. Sad thing was it was pitch black out and I couldn't see a thing. But the intense sound from those two coming together at full force was an experience I can't forget. The noise, the impact, it was intense. I really wish there was a full moon however, the noise and my senses running at full... hard to express the moment but it was very cool.
Not from that night, but a picture of a bull on my property that I had to keep an eye on when my kids were headed to the bus stop for school.
