Last winter was our first as snowbirders at 63 & 61. We could have gone a couple of years earlier, but family issues got in the way. Last winter we visited several FL parks and noticed that we were definitely in the "younger" category. That doesn't bother us though.
We have three other couples that have RV'd with us here in Michigan over the years, all around the same age. None of them have been able to go south yet. One couple both work and have one set of parents needing attention. Another couple are both retired, but again, one set of parents needs some overseeing. The last couple has the husband working with spouse retired and I asked them last weekend, "Are you going to follow us south with the camper soon?" It was a "well maybe in a couple of years." I have my doubts any of them will do what we're doing. Finances are a concern for some of them because without pensions, as we have, it will be difficult.
We didn't start our working careers back in the 70's with thoughts of the importance of pensions. We both stayed at the same place of employment our entire careers and were lucky enough to still have a pension when we retired with over 30 years of service. The folks older that us, those in their 70's on up often have pensions. Unfortunately it's just not there for many anymore.
