Younger folks are growing up expecting to start where their parents left off: otherwise, they figure their quality of life has eroded. They are supported in this attitude by marketers who push junk they don't need (What? You don't have the latest iPhone, home theater, car, nicest house in the neighborhood, etc.? Shame on you.) At the same time, they resist learning to read, do simple math, and balance a checkbook.
Our elected politicians do hit the road running---to grab as much as they can by sucking up to lobbyists. Otherwise, they aren't reelected. And notice how the industries to be regulated always get invited to help write the legislation?
Have you ever tried to do comparative shopping for cell phone "service", internet access, or satellite!cable tv? If you have, can you tell me with a straight face that these industries are regulated?
We are rapidly becoming a third world country. (Have you noticed the condition of the interstates on your way south? Or tried to have something repaired? Or had an appliance that worked properly for more than a year or so?)
If it seems I am off topic, just reflect on the major reason that has been cited: younger folks can't afford to snowbird! Of course, I am a disgruntled old geezer---whether war baby of 1943, boomer, or just plain tired old guy!
