Some notable comments:
• In 30 years good union jobs have diminished and defined pensions were done away with and replaced with 401k accounts. Wall street took the fees but paid little returns. Business and Govt downsizing meant that workers didn't have job security with enough cash flow to fund those 401 accounts. Even folks with pensions have seen them taken away by corporate mergers and teabaggers gutting public pensions.
• Most of the guys my husband worked with can't retire. They have enough years in but are generally on their second families, with a new family of little kids and paying child support on the older ones.
I am 49 and a canadain/ American. I have watched my aunt for 35yrs snowbird down to Fl. If I can convince my wife to do the trip and live the life, we will. Last August we just bought our first TT at a reduced price- damaged and wrote off in a high wind storm in La. We had it shipped up here, I done all the repairs, and I will use this to trade up to a 5th wheel. Last month I went to the Toronto RV show- 5 buildings full of mini homes on wheels. That was my research and shock of the modern amenities of the RV today. I may go to the big one in September in Hershey. I just got in to the defined benefit contribution pension plan at work before they took it away, to my hope is to enjoy CG's at 58.
The 5th wheel front living room unit will be 4 season with its own heat pump and solar panels for electricity.- that's my short list.
the kids today have a high standard of living expectancy! So they will pay the price. I will be conducting research to get ready for the big life style change- CG lot down south then CG lot up north, plan on 3 lots per year incase the neighbours tick us off- lol.
