- wallynmExplorerOpen twice a year and as I recall it is the first Saturday in April and November. About 20 miles SE of Socorro, NM. For me it was very interesting and have some decent displays. While in the area you should visit the Very Large Array some 30 miles SW of Socorro and the the
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. Eat at the Owl Cafe. We dry camped right next to Stallion Gate at the entrance to Trinity Site.
All are worth seeing.

yes, we have. maybe 7-8 years ago on a special tour. we were allowed inside the gates. many were spooked, some joked about radiation, some + me treated it as an opportunity to examine history close up. if you have the opportunity..go. if it's with a group or on one of the 2-days a year the gates are open...go.
if you go on your own also consider a visit to the VLA in Soccoro, NM. way cool. - wallynmExplorerYou probably get more radiation flying coast to coast nonstop. They got all the TRINITE boxed and under glass
- pigfarmerExplorerWallynm, we will be staying in the FamCamp at Holloman AFB and will join the caravan out to the Trinity Site on October 3rd. First time in 27 years of traveling that the timing has been right. Really excited about it. Been on the ole bucket list for a long time.Thank you for the other suggestions and will definetly check them out as we will be there for 3 weeks.
- wallynmExplorerIn 3 weeks you could try the Goddard Museum in Roswell, the Space Museum in Alamogordo, White Sands National Monument or Park west of Alamogordo and the AFB. War Birds Museum in Sunland Park.
- pigfarmerExplorerThanks for more suggestions wallynm. We've been traveling for 27 years and it is hard to find new places to explore. Being retired military we've done all of your above suggestions. Shoot out anymore you might have - might be one we've not done. Thanks again!!!
- WilliebagoExplorerOn the two days a year that the Trinity site is open, at the VLA (Very Large Array) the control room is open to the tours. Normally the control building and the Super Computer is not part of the tour, so try to do both on the same day.
- Thunder_MountaiExplorer IIThe Trinity Site is on my bucket list.
- pigfarmerExplorerWow Williebago! That does sound interesting but is it possiple to do? They are in opposite directions and miles apart. We figured a day for each.

unless something has changed all you’ll need at Trinity is an hour or so. the VLA is about a 90-min drive.
