TR is not your "typical" national park. It is fairly quiet, layed back, not overrun with visitors. In short - VERY enjoyable. The campground on the southern unit is fairly small and tight. Stay to the right loop, as the left loop is pretty much for tent campers and just driving through is tight. Many of the camping spots are just wide turnouts on the campground road.
One thing we didn't care for in the campground was that they have no fire rings, just elevated campfire grills that are for cooking, but not really for fires. Having a campfire is part of our camping experience. But this is small criticism...it is a wonderful, peaceful and beautiful place.
Be sure to spend some time in Medora. We went to the outdoor barbeque, where they do your food on a pitchfork. Then it is a short walk to the Medora play at the amphitheater. A must see show. It is a great reminder that America and Americana still exist. Also don't miss the free Harold Schafer museum - he's invented more things than you can imagine that you've probably used over the years. He was also the one who put Medora on the map and brought the amphitheater and play to town.
